Are You Ready For the Challenge?
Have you ever eaten something that tastes extra yummy and you wonder why? Was it because it was grown locally or just picked yesterday? Or was it because you love that way that grandma cooks it or you know the farmer? Well, here’s a game you can play at home with your friends or family and start to learn more about your food! – Welcome to the Bionutrient BRIXit challenge!
The quality of food has undoubtedly weakened globally in recent years. The enormous industrialized food system has to account for a lot more than what it used to be–namely growing and eating food. Today we have to account for growing, picking, packing, storing, shipping, presenting, cooking, displaying and eating food. With every additional inflection added to this list comes a price–leading naturally to us asking; what are we actually eating?
At BFA we want to not only be a part of bringing awareness to this issue, but to turn this into a measuring, documentable result so that YOU can imperially KNOW the value of what you’re consuming.
So Dan started dreaming…
What would be the ideal way for a consumer to know whether what they were eating was worth eating–after all, all produce might LOOK the same at the supermarket, but is it?
No… of course not, how can it be?
Dreaming BIG–The ideal would be to have an app on a phone that could beam into produce and tell you if it if was worth eating or not. You could point it at all of the produce one at a time and pick the best one! - Ah… can you imagine?!!!
This seemed a little too Star Trek, so we pulled back a bit and tried something that didn’t depend on the current market’s hardware, so in 2016, BFA, in partnership with OurSci, developed our very first spectrometer. This was a calibrated device that beamed light into a produce and sent a result to an app to record a level. - lt worked! The results showed us that this COULD be done, but there were several catches.
First: The device wasn’t cheap
Second: The connection between the device and the app was cumbersome.
Third: Most importantly. The data was only as accurate to the small samples we had!
We needed to rethink this. We needed more data–a LOT more data.
We needed to make this into a game. – We needed YOU!
Since the Bionutrient Meter wasn’t cheap or simple to use we decided to start by making the Bionutrient BRIXit Kit. A simple and very fun way to start educating people on how to know more, compare more and share more about their food and have fun as you do it!
